The Pathways to EmployABILITY Program (PEP) at York Catholic District School Board offers high school students with disabilities an opportunity to build employment skills while learning transit, pedestrian safety, and participating in their local communities. This inclusive program is supported by Special Education and Cooperative Education teachers and their Education Workers who accompany them in their placements. Become confident in working with people with disabilities by participating in this supported program and help your local high schools get tomorrow’s workforce job ready.

Position Summary

Students with disabilities, including physical or intellectual disabilities, participate in this adapted co-op program with the support of their Education Worker. Schedules are flexible, can attend daily or several days a week, from 1 – 4 hours per shift. Students complete their Pre-Placement training at their high school, including basic Health and Safety, Job Readiness, Professionalism in the Workplace and more. They are covered by the Ministry of Education Work Education Agreement (WEA) and any costs or insurance is assumed by the school board.

Position Responsibilities

Typically two students attend a placement with their Education Worker and complete entry level tasks as assembly of materials, sorting, organizing, stocking and merchandising and many more tasks. They are willing to learn and open to trying new things to support your company’s goals and get the job done!

Position Qualifications

Students are 16 – 20 years old with demonstrated job readiness skills.
