Vaughan Chamber members and leading institutions across York Region executed a week long engagement across Israel with Business Leaders
VAUGHAN, ON December 2, 2019 – Last week, the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce (VCC) in partnership with the City of Vaughan led a business delegation to Israel to strengthen partnerships and create opportunities between Vaughan businesses as well as York Region Institutions and Israeli business leaders. The business mission was co-led by Brian Shifman, President and CEO of the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce as well as the Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan.
A key highlight of the week included the signing of an MOU between the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce and the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce. This MOU will enable a continuous exchange of innovation based partnerships between Vaughan and Israeli businesses as well as creating opportunities for Canadian Venture Capital in Israel.
“This is the first of many engagements we will be initiating with our partners in Israel,” said Brian Shifman, President and CEO of the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce. “Israel is known as “Start-up Nation” and is a leader in innovation and healthcare so it’s to our benefit that we ensure our relationship continues to grow.”
Through B2B meetings, roundtables with Israeli business leaders and site visits at Multi-National companies, business executives from Vaughan were able to engage counterparts in an exchange of ideas, discuss mutual challenges and explore opportunities for future collaboration. A partial list of leading Israeli businesses (some Fortune 500) and institutions visited by the Vaughan Chamber delegation included: Teva Pharmaceuticals, Check Point Security, SodaStream, The Centre for Israeli Innovation.
A significant contributor to the success of the mission were municipal leaders – Regional Councillor Linda Jackson, Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco as well as Councillor Alan Shefman.
Mayor Bevilacqua said: “I want to recognize the local business leaders from the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce and Brian Shifman, the Chamber’s President and CEO, for their commitment to strengthen relations between Vaughan and Israel. Their dedication was evident throughout this 2019 trade mission and in particular, by signing an MOU with the Federation of Israeli Chambers. This agreement is a call to action and I challenge both organizations to use it as a guiding blueprint that delivers real results for the citizens of Vaughan and Israel.”
The Vaughan Chamber of Commerce is committed to working with institutions and partners across all levels of Government to ensure its mandate of enhancing business opportunities for members and businesses across Vaughan.
